The movie Independence Day was released in 1996 by 20th Century Fox and directed by Roland Emmerich. The movie stars Will Smith, Jeff Goldblum, Bill Pullman, Randy Quaid, and Vivica A. Fox.
Where do I start? This movie solidified Will Smith as a man of
blockbuster action films. His first blockbuster was Bad Boys, then this movie, and then followed it up with Men In Black. The plot had promise from the beginning. Aliens coming to take over the world...absolutely! Do we really believe that we are the only living things in this Universe? This movie revitalized my imaginery creations and allowed me to continue to have the ability to think outside of the common thinking. This movie came to entertain, and entertain it did. No wonder it was the number one box office hit many weeks after its release. To date this movie has grossed over $800,000,000.

It's July 2,a gigantic alien mothership enters orbit around Earth and sends dozens of smaller spacecrafts around the world to major cities. David Levinson (Jeff Goldblum) stumbles upon a sequential coding within their transmission. The coding is a countdown in which he believes is a coordinated attack.
David immediately locates his father, jump in the car, and head out to Washington DC to warn the President. With the help of David's wife (a senior White House correspondent), the President listens to David's theory and orders a nationwide evacuation of the targeted cities. Hours later, the attack on the White House occurs and Air Force One narrowly escapes with the President and his cabinet, to include David and his father.
It's now July 3, a retaliatory attack is conducted in Los Angeles. Captain Steven Hiller (Will Smith) is a member of the Black Knights of Marine Corps F/A-18 Hornet squadron. A losing dog fight ensues with smaller fighter spacecrafts. Captain Hiller would be the only remaining fighter and narrowly escapes an alien spacecraft by releasing the jet's parachute which covered the alien spacecraft and causing it to crash. Captain Hiller captures an alien.
The story would converge all the main characters to what is known as Area 51. There, the President authorizes the counter-attacks and the soon to be launched offensive that would be coordinated throughout the globe within minutes after Captain Hiller and David implant a virus on the mother ship, which would disorient all of the smaller crafts.
Cheers!
