What would you do when you know the world is coming to an end? This film dug deep into mankinds' resilience and resourcefulness in order to preserve the human race. Movie provided for good drama, but lacked action. Unfortunately for this movie, it came out at the same time as Armageddon. I thought it was pretty good but lacked the action and suspense that was provided by Armageddon, oh... and the actors were the biggest tickets at the time. It was kind of hard to beat out Ben Affleck, Bruce Willis, Liv Tyler, Steve Buscemi, Michael Clark Duncan, and who cannot forget Billy Bob Thornton (who was dating Angelina Jolie at the time and eventually married her). All in all, it was a decent attempt to portray the end of the world caused by an impact by a comet.

Synopsis: The movie starts with amateur star gazer Leo Biederman
discovering an unsual event near the stars Mizar and Alcor. A
professional astronomer is alerted and the event is determined to be a comet that is on a direct collision for Earth. Unfornately for the astronomer, he dies in a car crash before he is able to alert the world.
A year passes and reporter Jenny Lerner is investigating the
resignation of the US Secretary of Treasury. Through her
investigations, she discovers ELE, whom she initially deduce as a possible mistress and the reason for the secretary's resignation. As she continues her investigation, she realizes that ELE is an abbreviation for extinction level event instead of mistress.
The movie picks up pace as the President of the United States
finally announces that there is a comet on direct collision with
Earth, one that will extinct mankind. As the announcement is made, a secret mission of Russian and US astronauts are onboard the "Messiah" spacecraft to intercept the comet and destroy it with nuclear weapons. In addition to the announcement of the spacecraft, the President also announces that they have built an underground "Noah's Ark," but can only hold a million of nation's population of which 200,000 are already pre-selected scientist, engineers, soldiers, and high government officials. The other 800,000 will be chosen out of a national lottery.
The rest of the world braces for impact as the crew of the "Messiah" conduct their mission to save the annihilation of Earth.
Cheers!
