Apocalypse Prophecy: Who has been making these end of days predictions?

The history of the Apocalypse Prophecy is quite interesting. There have been people predicting the apocalypse since the beginning of time. There have been apocalypse predictions, end times prophecies, end of the world predictions, and most recently 2012 predictions.

What is it with all of these (mostly failed) predicitons? Who are (or were) these people making these prophesies? An entire website could be dedicated to exploring all of them. There are so many that it would take me years to sort through them all. Actually, there are a few sites that do attempt to catalogue them and describe the basic tennents of the apocalypse prophecy. But that is not what this site is dedicated to...we will explore the notable ones and attempt to educate and entertain ourselves in the process.

I have a few people in mind that I would like to further explore here. Nostradamus (Nostradomus, Nostrodamus, or Nostrodomus, depending on how you spell it) is quite famous and is well quoted. His predictions have been studied for centuries! Edgar Cayce is another prophet who was really a recent day psychic who had a lot to say about the end of the world. There is the Web Bot too...a program that reportedly predicts armegeddon. Michael Drosnin has used a numbers code to find a date we can all expect the earth to meet its demise.

Follow the links below to read more about the people behind the apocalypse prophecy and understand a little more about what they are predicting. The last link I provide is a listing of failed predicitons that I have found around the internet. It seems that there is enough there to keep you entertained for an evening of reading (and laughing at times).

Nostradamus: A famous man today, he lived in the 16th century and produced several works that today have been studied intensively. His quatrains are reportedly proven works of true prophecy as many have been proven true over the centuries since he wrote them. There have been movies, books, television shows, websites and more dedicated to his works.

Edgar Cayce : An American psychic who lived at the beginning of the 20th century. He gained fame because of his ability to make psychic readings for sick people who went on to follow his advice and were healed. Wikipedia notes the he still has many followers and that over 300 books have been written about him.

Terence McKenna : From experimental hallucinations to visions of the end of the world.

Web Bot : Originally a program that was intended to use web searching activities of the public to predict stock prices. It has since grown and is now supposedly tapped into the collective wisdom of the internet using public. Bases its predicitons on the increase in the number of searches and the associated words in those searches. Some startling predictions that came true include the twin towers terrorist attack in 2001 and the space shuttle Columbia disaster.

Michael Drosnin: Author and reporter, Mr. Drosnin was exposed to a mathematician's theory of a code hidden in the bible. This code revealed an upcoming assination that he tried to warn of but when the assination prediction came true it seems he was hooked. The book "The Bible Code" was subsequently written. I have yet to read this book but it is on my list of books to read.

Apocalypse Prophesies gone unproven: An attempt at listing end of days predictions that have come and gone with out the actual end.

Other Apocalypse predictions: Another attempt- this time trying to list those voices of the apocalypse with future dates.

Be Good!

Curt
